Board And Management

Dr Roger Edwards BSc (Hons) Mech. Eng (Surrey), PhD (Strathclyde) – Chief Executive Officer

Roger is a biomedical engineer and has over 20 years experience in therapeutic device regulation, R&D and in manufacturing of medical devices. He has developed and commercialised new technologies through start-up companies associated with food, packaging, ICT and biotechnology.

For 7 years, Roger was the Executive Director of the Food and Packaging Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) and under his successful leadership four spin-offs were created. This led to licensing of two technologies internationally and the raising of investment capital and other grants.

He is a director and employee of Cominno Pty Ltd, a consultancy focussed on technology commercialisation.

Mr Charles Hider, LLB (Melbourne) – Executive Chairman

Charles is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria. He has extensive international legal, commercial, and negotiating experience, most notably in technology and resources. He was Chairman of a mid-tier law firm for over 30 years. For 10 years, he was a member of the Victorian State Parliament. In addition, he has been the chairperson and director of several ASX-listed companies.

Assoc. Professor Harry Minas, MBBS (Melbourne), FRANZCP – Non-Executive Director

Harry is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He is the foundation director of the Victorian Transcultural Psychiatry Unit, and the Director of the Centre for International Mental Health, School of Population Health at the University of Melbourne.

He has served as a member of the Executive of the Mental Health Council of Australia and on numerous state, national and international boards and committees. In addition, he has been a member of state and national ministerial advisory groups. He was also a consultant to the Commonwealth Department of Human Services, the International Organisation for Migration, and the World Health Organization (WHO). Harry leads a WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health and Substance Abuse. In 2007, the Director-General of the WHO appointed him to the International Expert Panel on Mental Health and Substance Abuse.

Dr Len Walker B.Sc. (Melb), MBA (Melb), PhD (Cantab) – Non-Executive Director

For 10 years, Len was Managing Director of one of Australia's leading geo-technical and mining engineering consulting companies. Len is currently the Managing Director of Cougar Energy Ltd, an ASX-listed company involved in underground coal gasification.

Mr Vann Fisher LLB (Monash), B.Econ. (Monash) – Non-Executive Director

Vann is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia and since the mid 1970’s has had extensive general commercial law (and related) experience. Vann has had significant exposure to and experience in diverse corporate, financial, structural, taxation, licensing, investment and governance activities and disciplines.

Mr Jason Thelander – Non-Executive Director

Jason has focused on business development and currently is CEO of Precision Mechatronic Pty Ltd, a spin-off from the Silverbrook Research P/L. Jason has a strong practical engineering background with experience in biomedical technology, precision mechatronics, design, construction, prototyping, and manufacture. Precision Mechatronics is one of Australia’s largest precision engineering design and manufacturing houses, providing expertise and services to organizations such as Cochlear Ltd and NICTA. Jason holds other board positions in Surfx Technologies LLC, a privately held company that develops, manufactures, and sells surface treatment equipment for the medical device, aerospace and electronics industries.

Inventor and Principal Researcher/Investigator

Mr Brian Lithgow BSc, BE, M.Eng.Sc (Melbourne)

Brian is currently the Leader of the Diagnostic and Neuro-signal Processing Research Group at Monash University

He also holds a Senior Research Fellowship at Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, where the first clinical EVestG™ facility has been installed for the last 3 years.

Finally, he is Visiting Professor and an Adjunct Professor role at the University of Manitoba, Riverview Health Centre, Diagnostic (Neurosignal Processing Research Lab) in Winipeg Canada, where Neural Diagnostics has funded its first international EVestG™ facility to discover and validate biomarkers that differentiate Alzheimer’s disease from other dementias with similar symptoms.

Previously, Brian worked for the Royal Australian Navy as well as in Industry in positions, including Chief Electronic Design Engineer Hudson Allen Ltd. and Deputy Director of Biomedical Engineering at the Alfred Hospital.

His research interests focus on Vestibular (Meniere's Disease) and Neurological/Neurodegenerative (Schizophrenia, Depression and Parkinson's disease) diagnostics, and include modeling of the auditory and vestibular systems, tinnitus suppression, cochlear implant signal processing and the application of time-frequency and statistical signal processing techniques to speech.

His publications include more than 72 refereed publications, four patents, two book chapters and six books.
